Our lab welcomes new members to join our team of students who pursue Master’s and Doctoral Degrees through our Department of Kinesiology and the Community Youth Sport Development (CYSD) concentration. Students in our lab contribute to our research, professional development, and community engagement initiatives during the course of their study. All students have opportunity to independently study topics of interested related to restorative justice, which culminates with a dissertation, thesis, or in-depth field placement.

For students interested in a Master’s degree, a two year plan of study is most common and students choose between a field-based capstone or a research-based thesis as their final independent project. In some instances, it is possible to do an MS-PhD combined option.

Students interested in doctoral degrees have two options to connect with our lab. The department offers a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Kinesiology, which is a fully online program with asynchronous courses. This program is a great fit for students who want to engage with our lab but cannot live in the Greensboro area. More importantly, this degree program is designed for practitioners who aim to integrate research and theory into their professional practice.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is best for students who wish to develop research experiences with an emphasis on community engagement. Students in our PhD program take some face-to-face classes on campus and meet in-person regularly in our lab and at community programs. Therefore, this program does require students to live in the Greater Greensboro area.

There are some opportunities for graduate funding through grants or teaching assistantships. The availability of funds varies from year-to-year and is competitive. Prospective students are encouraged to communicate with the lab members about opportunities that may be available.
