Course on Teacher Knowledge

This month we discuss the effects of a methods course on teacher practical knowledge. This open access article discusses a Teacher Education program in Finland and how classroom teachers learn how to teach physical education. Risto is joined by Kevin Richards and Justing Haegele on this month’s article club.

Article Club #6: PE and the art of teaching

The paper is the José María Cagigal Scholar Lecture presented at the AIESEP World Congress in Edinburgh 2018 by Dr. Mikael Quennerstedt. Risto is joined by Michael Hemphill, Kevin Richards and our newest member of our article club Dr. Erin Centeio. We discuss Mikael’s paper and other topics related to the concepts he brings up like how to put the E into PE, and maybe why NOT to put the E in PE during the COVID pandemic.

Book Club "Why are all the Black kids sitting together in the cafeteria"

This is a book club hosted by Risto with Dr. Clancy Seymore and one of his AMAZING students Harry Reed.

The podcast covers a national best seller book titled “Why are all the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria” by Beverly Daniel Tatum. Some of you may have read this book several years ago, as it was first published on 1997…Dr. Tatum revised and updated it in 2017

We hope others will read the book as well and engage in further discussion.

PETE collaborative on race and racism in PETE and PE

The third PETE collaborative brought together a panel of researchers and experts on racism, race, and social justice in PETE and PE. These collaborative discussions occur the second Thursday of each month at 4pm EST.
